Your result shows your WPM and accuracy in German. Expect a slightly lower score than in your strongest language at first - your fingers need time to learn new letter patterns.
Typing accented letters in German
German keyboards use the QWERTZ layout, which swaps Y and Z, and add dedicated keys for ä, ö, ü and ß. German also capitalizes every noun, so you'll press Shift more often than in English. This test uses lowercase common words so you can focus on the letters first.
Letters you'll meet in German: ä ö ü ß.
Practicing a second language
Typing in a new language trains two skills at once: spelling and finger movement. Short, frequent sessions work best. Try a 1 minute German test every day, and use the Custom option to paste in vocabulary you're studying.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a German keyboard?
No. You can type most common German words on any keyboard. For accented letters, switch your operating system's input to a German or international layout.
Is WPM measured the same way in German?
Yes. Every five correct characters count as one word, regardless of language, so scores are comparable across languages.
